Welcome Back:
We were happy to welcome students back to school this week. Teachers began re-establishing routines and relationships with students and getting back to learning largely where we left off. Students were back into the swing of things quickly and getting those learning muscles back in action.
We would like to acknowledge the amazing work of our support staff during the labor disruption. Learning and common spaces were amazingly clean and organized for student return and lots of tasks that are just so hard to fit into the day when the school is full of active students were completed.
We look forward to continuing our time together as a learning community.
Sincerely and with appreciation,
Cheryl and Jeff
Bracelet Sale in Support of Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH):
A group of Grade 5 students have taken it upon themselves to organize a Bracelet Sale (Taylor Swift Style) over the next couple of weeks beginning on November 3.
Over lunch period the students will be selling bracelets for $1 and rings for $0.25. This low organization, high impact activity has raised several hundred dollars for ACH in the past and we are happy to support these students again.
Just send a $1 with your child and they’ll have an opportunity to make purchases during lunch. Inventory will be replenished as fast as they can and as long as their little fingers hold up. We understand there will even be opportunities to request “custom” designs. 100% of proceeds will be donated to the Alberta Children's Hospital.
Thank you Sadie, Hannah, Paige, Briar, Paisley, Frankie, Sawyer and Fiona for taking on this project.
Remembrance Day
This year, we will honour Remembrance Day with an in-school gathering and classroom reflections. Given our recent return to school, we want to keep the day meaningful yet manageable for students and staff.
As we reflect on those who served and sacrificed for peace, we will also connect this to our school theme of “We All Belong.” Together, we’ll consider how belonging, kindness, and understanding help build the peaceful communities that so many have fought to protect.
Students will receive a poppy to wear on November 7. Veteran poppy donation boxes are available in the school office for anyone wishing to contribute to the Royal Canadian Legion in support of veterans and their families.
Stay tuned for next week’s Woodbine Weekly, where we’ll share conversation starters and reflection prompts families can use to continue the discussion at home.
IPPS
CBE has extended the IPP timeline to allow time for teachers to re-affirm student needs and goals, and communicate with families. IPPs will be sent home to families on Nov 21.
Re-arranged field trips
Our Alien In Line Skating residency has been moved to the following dates: Feb 10, 11, 17-20, 23-25.
No Dogs Allowed on School Property
This is a friendly reminder that dogs are not permitted on school property or the school field at any time (this includes drop-off, pick-up, and after-school hours). This policy is in line with the City of Calgary Bylaw which restricts all pets from entering school grounds, fields, and playgrounds.
We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our school grounds safe and compliant with city policy.
School Council
Please stay tuned for School Council’s rescheduled date.
A reminder that School Council volunteers support Fun Lunches at Woodbine School. All dates are listed on the school’s calendar and are available through Healthy Hunger website. Healthy Hunger
