Access to book appointments with teachers will be available from 06:00 am on Wednesday, November 19 and close for booking at 11:59 pm on Wednesday, November 26. Conferences will be held in-person, in your child's classroom.

Picture Day – Nov 13:
Our rescheduled Photo Day will be held on Thursday, November 13. If you miss Photo Day there will be retakes happening on December 9.
Table Top Topics from Remembrance Day Assembly:
· What was something you noticed or felt during our Remembrance Day assembly today?
· What did the wreath and poppies mean to you?
· When we say “We all belong,” what does that mean to you?
· How can we help peace grow at school? What about at home?
This year, we will honour Remembrance Day with an in-school gathering and classroom reflections. Given our recent return to school, we want to keep the day meaningful yet manageable for students and staff.
As we reflect on those who served and sacrificed for peace, we will also connect this to our school theme of “We All Belong.” Together, we’ll consider how belonging, kindness, and understanding help build the peaceful communities that so many have fought to protect.
Students will receive a poppy to wear on November 7. Veteran poppy donation boxes are available in the school office for anyone wishing to contribute to the Royal Canadian Legion in support of veterans and their families.
Stay tuned for next week’s Woodbine Weekly, where we’ll share conversation starters and reflection prompts families can use to continue the discussion at home.
Terry Fox Run
Heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this year's Terry Fox Run such a phenomenal success!
The beautiful weather was the perfect backdrop for an inspiring day as our students came together to honor Terry Fox's incredible legacy and celebrate our school community.
A special thank you to our Grade 4 teachers and students for their hard work in planning and organizing the run, including their care for our newest runners in Kindergarten.
We are truly grateful to everyone who has already generously donated. If you haven't yet, you can still support this important cause by clicking here: https://schools.terryfox.ca/98208
A Note About School Communication from Administration:
We want to kindly remind families that our school’s main mode of communication for weekly events, important updates, and upcoming dates, both from the school and from School Council is through SchoolMessenger. Each Friday, we send out the Woodbine Weekly, which keeps families informed and up to date.
For your convenience, the Woodbine Weekly is also posted on our school website: https://woodbine.cbe.ab.ca/.
Thank you for making the Woodbine Weekly your go-to source for school news and updates!
The five senses song we are learning this week:
This video uses the same poems I use to help our class remember how to form the numerals. We are only doing number 1 this week:
This is the song students will be learning to help remember the sound /a/:
Dear Parents and Families,
Welcome to Kindergarten! I hope you have enjoyed your summer and are ready for an amazing year of learning together. As we begin Kindergarten at Woodbine School, I am excited to get to know our new students and families. Together, we will create a supportive and positive learning community.
My name is Mrs. Caroline Harper, and I will be your child’s teacher this year. It is so important for a child’s first experience with school to be a positive one, so it is my goal to ensure all my students leave Kindergarten with a passion for learning and growing. This is why I love teaching Kindergarten!
Our designated door for dropping off and picking up will be the front doors of the school. Students can line up on the path closest to the school (see picture below) and when the bell rings I will bring the class inside. Please notify me as to how/who your child goes home with. Your child will be dismissed at the front door once they have identified that they see their adult who is picking them up. I will not let your child leave without confirming the adult they are going home with is present so please make me aware if there are any changes to pick up throughout the year.
Our first day of school is Tuesday, September 2, 2025. We will be doing a staggered entry for Kindergarten on Tuesday and Wednesday, please refer to the chart below to see when your child has been assigned to attend. The morning kindergarten class is in green, and afternoon is in blue, which will be their colours for the entire year.

To communicate with you on a weekly basis, I have a blog that can be accessed from the Woodbine School website https://woodbine.cbe.ab.ca/kindergarten-blog . Each week I will post our weeks activities as well as important reminders, such as dates to remember and pictures of all the fun we are having. I will never post a picture with a student's face in the picture. I will make every effort to also email you each week what if posted on the blog however, pictures will not be included in the emails as I am limited to the amount of data I can send. 2024-25 Yearbook – Consents
The production of the 2024-2025 school yearbook is currently underway, and we are in the final stages of page compilation.
We wish to bring to your attention a crucial matter regarding your child's photograph in the yearbook. Based on the selections made in your Annual Authorizations 2024-25 within SchoolEngage, if you indicated "NO" to both "CBE Use" and "By News Media and Outside Groups (Third Party)," your student's photo will not be included in the yearbook.
Should you wish for your child's photo to appear in the yearbook, you will need to update your consent in SchoolEngage to "YES" for both of the following authorizations:
· CBE Use
· By News Media and Outside Groups (Third Party)
The deadline to make these changes is a firm May 16. After this date, we will be unable to accommodate further consent updates as the yearbook will proceed to production.
Please log in to your SchoolEngage account by May 16 to review and update your Annual Authorizations if necessary.

Dear Families,
So far, only two students have brought in a stamp to mail their letter home. To ensure more students have the opportunity to participate, I will be rescheduling our walking field trip to Wednesday, March 12, 2025 for the PM Class. This will allow additional time for students to bring a stamp so they can send their letter as well.
Thank you for your support!

Here is the February Volunteering Sign Up. Please sign up if you are able, thank you so much!
Leadership Change: It is with mixed emotions that I share the news of my departure from Woodbine School as I transition to a new leadership opportunity at a Middle School. My official last day will be February 28, 2025. While I am excited for the next chapter in my career, I will always carry fond memories of my time at Woodbine.
Reflecting on my years here, I am incredibly grateful for the experiences and relationships that have made this school such a special place. From the energy of the Sound Creation Dance concerts, to learning to skate, to the excitement of attending Minecraft awards, from the joy of Cultural Night to the camaraderie of leading the CrossFit and Art Clubs, each moment has reinforced my deep appreciation for our vibrant school community. Most of all, I will cherish the opportunity to work alongside our brilliant teachers, dedicated school council, and, of course, my favorite part of Woodbine—the students.
To ensure a smooth transition, I will be collaborating with Education Director Michelle Howell and Assistant Principal Cheryl Rosenbaum to support the incoming Principal. I am confident that Woodbine will continue to thrive under new leadership and maintain its strong commitment to student success.
As part of the process to select a new principal for Woodbine School, the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) is seeking input from parents and staff regarding the programming and leadership qualities that are most important to you. This feedback will be an integral part of the hiring process. The survey will open on Friday, February 7 and remain open until Friday, February 21. We encourage you to share your insights by completing the survey at the following link: Principal Survey
To the students, staff, and families of Woodbine, thank you for the trust, support, and countless memories. It has been an honor to serve as your Principal, and I look forward to seeing the continued achievements of this exceptional school community.

SWIMMING VOLUNTEERS sign up here please!
Hello Families,
I just wanted to send a quick update on a few things:
1) Parent Teacher Conference are tomorrow, Thursday from 8am-8pm and Friday from 8am-12pm. If you have not book a 10 minute time you can learn how to book a conference, edit your booking etc via this help page link: https://www.cbe.ab.ca/support/Pages/MyCBE-PowerSchool-School-Conferences.aspx If you cannot navigate the booking system you can always call the office and they will walk you through it.
Thursday will be a regular school day for students so there will be a substitue teacher in the classroom while I am in conferences. If you book a time on Thursday during the day you will be meeting with me in the conference room (the office can show you where that is if you do not know. If you are meeting with me in the evening or on Friday you will meet me in our regular classroom (Room 12). I will have a couple chairs in the hall if I am still meeting with someone for you to wait. Please be respectful of everyones time and help me keep the schedule, these are 10 minute time slots, but if you need more time after meeting with me I am always happy to meet with you another time to discuss concerns more fully.
2) Swim Ability Forms. I am sorry for not explaining the swim ability forms to new famillies to Woodbine. Every year we do swimming lessons as part of our gym program. Kindergarten will be going in January. In order to prepare for this we are asking for your child's swimming ability to ensure they are put into the correct grouping. I will send more information and permission forms home soon about this. We are just figuring out some logistical items before sending permission forms home.
3) Today I am sending home a "Reverse Advent Calendar Food Drive" paper. On it is a calendar with food items to be donated each day leading up to the break. Please feel free to send anything, they are just suggested items based on the Calgary Food Banks wishlist of items needed. The class with the most items brought in will get a doughnut party for their class!
I think that is all for now, I look forward to meeting with all of you tomorrow or Friday!

A couple things:
1) Survey: Help us enhance the daily commute for students, staff, and families. Your feedback will guide decisions on traffic management, parking solutions, 'Hug and Go' zones, by filling out the following survey, starting tomorrow:

Hello Families,
I have had a few questions about some things so I wanted to write a message to let everyone know about a few things.
- Our school will be having a “Meet the Teacher” night on Thursday September 26 in the evening. This is an open house style where you come in anytime to see the classroom tour the school say hello to me and such. If you would like a more traditional private 10-15 minute interview with me alone please email me before Thursday September 19 at 3:30pm so that I can ensure I have enough time set aside to do this. Based on how many people would like a private meeting I will set up a sign up with time slots to fill in that will be sent out Friday. If you are ok with simply attending the “Meet the Teacher” and not meeting individually no need to let me know.
- I wanted to let you know what our weekly schedule is for Library, gym and music. This can sometimes change, but if there is a permanent change I will let you know.
- Morning Class:
- Monday = Gym
- Tuesday = Music
- Wednesday = Gym
- Thursday = Library
- Friday = Gym
- Afternoon Class
- Tuesday = Music & Gym
- Wednesday = Library
- Thursday = Gym
- Friday = Gym
- Library: In kindergarten we get 1 book to bring home each week. When the book is returned they are able to bring a new book home. We have a library bucket in our room so they can bring the book back whenever they would like to however we only attend the library on the given day above in order to bring a new book home. If the book is not returned after a few weeks a reminder will be sent home to bring it back. There are no late fees, however if the book is lost there is a replacement fee to replace the book that is lost. This fee is dependent on the cost of the book that was lost.
- Volunteering: In my weekly email I will send a link to a signup genius where you can sign up for a way to volunteer for the class. I put lots of spots but please don’t feel pressure to fill in all the slots. If they don’t get filled, no biggy, I just want to make sure I am making the opportunity available to you. I typically don’t have volunteers in September as we are learning routine and for some it is still a transition to leave parents so having parents come to the school can be tough. So expect to see the signup in a week or two to plan for October!
Thank you so much!

REMINDER: Afternoon Kindergarten class is attending tomorrow 8:58 - 12:50pm.
Hello Families,
We had a great day today learning the expectations for colouring. I have sent home a checklist for you to help with all the items needing to be completed at the beginning of the school year.
If your child brought it home in a green or blue folder please return the folder tomorrow. We are still waiting on a shipment of supplies so if you didn’t get a green or blue folder, it will arrive soon!
A few things to remember:
- Please fill your child’s water bottle before coming to school.
- Please have your child go to the bathroom before leaving home.
- Please ensure your child eats breakfast or lunch before school so they aren’t hungry right when we start school.
Thank you so much,
Mrs. Harper
Hello Families,
It was so nice to meet all of you and your kiddos. We had a great couple of days learning how we come into class and start our day. As well as touring the school. We learned about our learning centers classroom and how to put our items away when we are finished with them.
Plans for this week Sept. 3-6:
- Colouring expectations
- Scissors and cutting expectations
- Glueing expectations
- How to draw a person (PM class)
Action Items:
- Complete online forms
- I will be sending home a checklist of all forms to be completed, and how to access the forms. I will be sending this home in their travel folder. This is a green (for AM) or blue (for PM) plastic folder that is used to keep items safe that are being sent home and is expected to be returned to school as soon as possible (preferably the next day) so that it is ready to go for the next item that needs to be sent home. I will not send it home unless there is something that needs to go home, so please check your child's backpack every day for the folder.
- Work with your child on packing their backpack independently. (example: how to place their lunch kit in so it fits)
