We are a high spirited and enthusiastic place of learning where academic expectations reign and the pursuit of excellence is our goal.

Woodbine is blessed to have a wonderfully dedicated staff that have created a supportive and caring learning environment with students at the center. We are highly engaged in school renewal planning and through this rigorous process we strive to further the academic achievement of each of our students.

In addition our Woodbine School Council, an active school focused group of parents, continues to support the work of the school through creative initiatives and events.

School Philosophy

At Woodbine School we believe that:

  • The primary role of the teacher is to inspire a love of learning through evidence-based programs and practices that support the success of all students.
  • Every individual is a valued member of our community and should be treated with respect and acceptance.
  • Our programs should leverage student strengths, where diversity and differences are not only valued but celebrated.
  • Teamwork, open communication, a common language, and clear, consistent expectations are essential in fostering a positive environment conducive to effective learning. Research shows that high self-esteem is crucial for positive learning experiences, and in turn, positive learning further enhances self-worth.
  • Ensuring safety is a fundamental right for all. The student-teacher-content relationship, often referred to as the Adjustment Cycle, is central to the learning process. Our goal is for students to develop into independent learners, critical thinkers, problem solvers, risk-takers, and informed kind members of society.

School Motto

Respect for Myself, Respect for Others, Respect for My School.

School Guidelines

At Woodbine School we:

  • do our best
  • treat each other with respect
  • work together to keep our school safe

Rights and Responsibilities

We believe that our community thrives when we have well-defined goals and expectations. Research shows that clear expectations, coupled with consistent support, foster an environment where students can achieve their full potential. Our staff is committed to maintaining a positive and inclusive atmosphere, where the majority of our students behave in responsible and respectful ways. We recognize the importance of upholding the following rights and responsibilities, which guide our interactions and support our collective growth:

  • Right to Education: Every student has the right to a quality education. It is my responsibility to actively participate in my learning by listening, practising, completing assignments, and accepting help when needed. I will not disrupt the instruction of my teachers or the learning of my peers.
  • Right to Respect and Dignity: Every student has the right to happiness and to be treated with respect. It is my responsibility to treat others with kindness and consideration. I will not engage in behaviours that demean or belittle others, including laughing at, teasing, or disrespecting fellow students, staff, or adults.
  • Right to Be Heard: Every student has the right to express themselves and be heard. It is my responsibility to maintain a peaceful and respectful environment. I will refrain from interrupting, shouting, or making loud noises when others are speaking.
  • Right to Safety: Every student has the right to feel safe and secure at school. It is my responsibility to ensure that my actions do not harm others physically or emotionally. I will not engage in behaviors that threaten or hurt others.
  • Right to Free Expression: Every student has the right to express themselves and explore their identity. It is my responsibility to express my thoughts and feelings in a manner that is respectful and does not disrupt the school environment or damage personal and public property.
  • Right to Individuality: Every student has the right to be themselves. It is my responsibility to respect the individuality of others and not judge or treat them unfairly because they may look, think, or act differently than I do.
  • Right to Privacy: Every student has the right to personal privacy and space. It is my responsibility to respect the property and privacy of others.
  • Right to Support in Self-Control: Every student has the right to assistance in developing self-control. It is my responsibility to practice self-discipline and seek help when needed. I understand that when I violate the rights of others, I will be corrected, just as others will be corrected if they violate my rights. No one should stand by silently when witnessing the violation of personal rights.

These rights will be upheld as long as each of us fulfills our responsibilities. By working together, we create a school environment where everyone can succeed and feel valued.

School Development Plan

Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.
