Principal Message:
Dear Woodbine School Families,
It is with great excitement that I introduce myself as the new principal of Woodbine School. I am honored to join this wonderful community and eager to begin working together to support the success and well-being of every student.
For the past six years, I have served as the principal of the All-Boys Program, and prior to that, I was an assistant principal for 12 years at Forest Lawn High School, Piitoayis Family School, and Henry Wise Wood School. My teaching career has been rooted in math and science, where I had the privilege of teaching students from Grade 5 through high school, including physics and chemistry. Yes—it’s true, I am a proud nerd at heart!
One of my favorite questions has always been “Why?” Why is the universe the way it is? Why is the sky blue? And now, most importantly—Why is this happening for this child? I believe that by asking and seeking to understand why, instead of simply addressing symptoms, we can better support each child in getting what they need to succeed.
I also believe that learning thrives when students feel a true sense of belonging and connection. When children feel seen, valued, and supported, they are more engaged, more curious, and more willing to embrace challenges. My goal as principal is to work alongside staff, students, and families to ensure that Woodbine School is a place where every child feels at home, and where their potential can flourish.
I am truly excited for the year ahead and look forward to getting to know each of you and your children. Together, we can continue to make Woodbine School a caring, dynamic, and inspiring place to learn.
Warm regards,
Erik Sprong
Teacher Update:
Please welcome Syrina Facca to our Woodbine staff. She will be joining the grade 1 team!
Welcome Back to School:
Parking: Please follow all parking signs around the school during school hours. We must ask that families do not block residential driveways at any time. Doing so creates frustration for our neighbours. Thank you for helping us keep our school community safe and respectful.
Communication: Keeping families informed is a priority for us. To ensure you have access to the latest information, we will send out our Woodbine Weekly via SchoolMessenger every Friday from the school office. In this communication we will share important upcoming events, field trips, parent/teacher conferences, spirit days and general and general school news.
You can also find key information, which is regularly updated, on our school website, including:
· School Calendar
· Back-to-School Information
· Lunchroom Information
· Transportation Information
· Staff Directory
Student Health Plan: These are required for any medication that is stored and/or administered at school. Please submit the completed form to the office with the medication in a clearly labeled Ziploc bag.
Student Health Emergency Response Protocol Form: This is required if medication is being administered at school. This form is also needed if there is a significant health concern, e.g. life threatening allergy.
Both forms can be found here:

Terry Fox Run:
Our school is once again participating in the annual Terry Fox School Run to continue the legacy of a true Canadian hero. We're proud to join thousands of schools across the country in this tradition, raising funds for cancer research.
More details will follow soon - every donation, no matter how small, makes a significant difference.
Please use our dedicated fundraising link should you wish to make a donation https://schools.terryfox.ca/98208
Cellphone Use:
To support a focused and distraction-free learning environment, our school follows an “Away for the Day” approach based on Alberta Education guidelines. This means that once students enter the school building, cell phones, Apple Watches, Samsung Watches and any other electronic device that can access the internet are to be put away, including before and after school. During instructional hours, devices should be powered off/set to silent and placed in the student’s backpack or left at home where they are safe. Exceptions will be granted for student with medical needs.
Fun Lunches:
We're gearing up for another year of Fun Lunch, and we need your help to make it a success! Just like last year, this popular program is entirely run by parent volunteers.
If we don't have enough volunteers to help with distribution on Fun Lunch days, we won't be able to run the program. Please consider signing up to help. Your time and effort are greatly appreciated and directly benefit our students.
Thank you for your support! If you can spare some time for this much loved event please see the sign up link on the Healthy Hunger website. Healthy Hunger
