Classroom Update:

Grade ones are thrilled to share our excitement about watching Jackie and Shadow, a pair of bald eagles, care for their three recently hatched eaglets! The classes have been live streaming the eagles nest for several weeks now. Observing these majestic birds in real time has sparked so much curiosity and wonder in our classrooms. To deepen our learning, we have an exciting Zoom meeting coming up on Wednesday with an eagle expert through the Friends of Big Bear Valley, where students will have the chance to ask questions and learn even more about these incredible birds. We can’t wait for this special experience and look forward to sharing what we discover!

Science Fair:
This week, we were excited to host our school’s Science Fair! Our dedicated students participated through our Science Fair Club, spending lunch hours once a week since November and working hard at home to develop their projects. They explored fascinating questions, followed the scientific method, and showcased their findings in creative and thoughtful displays.

An official judge evaluated their projects, and some of our students will be moving on to represent our school at the city-wide Science Fair! We are so proud of their hard work, curiosity, and commitment to scientific inquiry. Congratulations to all participants!

School Lunch Policy Reminder:
We would like to remind families of our school policy regarding lunch deliveries. We kindly ask that special lunches not be delivered during the school day, unless it is an exceptional circumstance. This policy is also in place on Healthy Hunger lunch days. There has been an influx of fast-food, or special lunch deliveries from families who did not order Healthy Hunger lunches. This policy helps minimize disruptions and ensures a smooth lunch process for all students.

If your child is not participating in the Healthy Hunger program, please ensure they bring a packed lunch from home in the morning.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Scholastic Book Fair is coming – Apr 14-17:

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way!  Save the dates!  The book fair will take place in our Learning Commons.  Students will be able to purchase books through the day.  All purchases benefit our school and earn Scholastic Dollars that can be redeemed for books and educational resources for our classrooms and school library.

With labour action by CUPE Local 40 members limiting access to CBE schools after hours – we will let you know closer to the time if we are able to offer any evening opening times for parents to purchase.

Look out for more information to come.

Lost and Found:

Our Lost and Found area is full again – snow pants/mitts/sweaters etc. please have your child look for lost items. Parents are welcome to come and look through our Lost and Found area too - please check in at the office to do so. Any remaining items will be donated after dismissal on March 20.

 School Planning Survey:
At Woodbine School, we hold the firm belief that families are pivotal to the academic success of children. We are asking that you participate in a short survey that opens February 18, 2025 - 03:00 PM and closes on March 28, 2025 - 11:59 PM. The purpose of this survey is to gather feedback from families on school planning, which includes the school development plan, school budget, and school fees. When students, staff and families work closely together, students experience greater success.
