School Update

Halloween: On Tuesday October 31, 2023 students are welcome to wear costumes if you and your child wish to do so. Like previous years, students will be allowed to come already dressed so that no time and efforts are taken away from teaching and learning. Please be mindful that teachers will continue to deliver the Alberta Curriculum and Program of Studies, while infusing the season into their lessons. As a result, no costume should interfere with regular teaching and learning, including Physical Education. We do ask that students keep all weapons or large accessories at home and that costumes are school and age appropriate.

 

Weather Reminders: Calgary’s weather can include snow, cold temperatures and wind chill and that make getting to and from school challenging. Families are reminded to prepare and take extra caution during the winter months and periods of extreme weather.

CBE Schools Rarely Close Due to Snow or Cold Temperatures

All CBE schools will remain open to provide a safe, warm and secure environment for students.

Even with adverse weather conditions, assume that schools are open unless you hear otherwise from your school. Information regarding any school closures due to weather will be posted on the CBE websites and social media, and shared with local news media.

Be Prepared: Families should ensure they are prepared for all weather conditions.

• Children should be well prepared and dressed for the weather.
• Children will find it easier to walk through the ice and snow when school items and lunches are carried in a back pack.
• Children should not be left unattended at bus stops for any period of time, under any circumstances. They should have clear instructions on how long to await for the bus and what to do if the bus does not arrive.
• Families should ensure that they have back-up care arrangements if transportation is delayed. Children should have a warm place to stay before and after school (i.e. with a neighbour or a nearby relative). 

We respect parents/guardians right to make their own decisions about sending their children to school. If your child will not be attending classes please ensure you contact your school's attendance line to report the absence.

 

Fee Assistance: Does your family qualify for a Central Fee Waiver?  If you can’t afford fees for Transportation, Lunch Supervision and Student Supplies, there are several ways to qualify. 

A Fee Waiver is an online application legal guardians can complete to have their fees waived if they meet a certain criteria.

Fee Waivers must be completed annually.

 

Picture Day Proofs: Proofs from our recent picture day will be coming home this week.  If you would like to order photos, please follow the instructions with the proof and order online.  We are not accepting cash, cheques at the office for school photos.

If your child was absent, or you would like to have retakes done, please send the envelope, with the proofs, back with your child on Retake Day and their photo will be taken on November 6.

 

Annual Forms in School Engage – Please Update: At the beginning of every school year there are a number of forms to be reviewed and submitted.  Please log into your MyCBE account, select the tab Online Forms and School Registration.  A notification box will populate and all outstanding forms are listed.   

The Annual forms include the following: 

• Demographic Verification-2023-24    
• Annual Authorization 2023-24 
  • Consent for CBE of Student Information 
  • Consent for Use of Student Information by News Media and Outside Groups (third Party) 

Please note:   

• If your response is "I Do not Give Consent" your student's picture will not be included in the Memory Book.
