School Update:

Spirit Week: The Grade 6 Leadership Club has been planning a school-wide spirit week for Halloween next week.   We look forward to seeing your outfits!

Halloween: Many have been asking about the school expectations for Halloween Day on Thursday October 31.

Halloween will continue to be a day of learning at the school.  Students are welcome to wear their costumes for the full day or even part of the day if they choose.  We encourage students to wear their costume over their regular clothes or bring a change of clothes in the event that they become uncomfortable or find that it interferes with their activities like gym or outdoor play.  The guidelines for costumes are:

  • No weapons
  • No masks
  • No blood or gore

A reminder that we do not give or share food at school and ask that no classroom treats are sent to school. If children have treats in their lunches following Halloween, we ask that they are peanut-free and that they do not share them with peers.

The reason behind these guidelines is that we want school to continue to be a safe, caring and welcoming place. Our learners from kindergarten to grade 4 share common spaces and are always interacting with one another.  We want to make sure that no one is scared or fearful in coming to school.  We thank all families for helping us continue to make our collective space a safe one.

Remembrance Day Assembly: We warmly invite you to join us for our annual Remembrance Day assembly, taking place on Tuesday, November 7, at 10:30 a.m. This gathering is an important moment for our school to come together in remembrance and gratitude for the sacrifices made by those who served, and continue to serve, in the Canadian Armed Forces. This year, we are honored to pay special tribute to Indigenous veterans who bravely contributed to Canada’s legacy of service, alongside other veterans and active members.

Through readings, songs, and moments of reflection, we will teach our students the importance of remembrance and respect, fostering a spirit of unity and gratitude.

Lifetouch Photos: School pictures are ready! Your child should have brought home their school photos last week.  Orders can be placed online via Lifetouch website (see envelope sent home for full ordering instructions).

Lost and Found: Please have your child check the overflowing Lost and Found for any missing items. All unclaimed items will be donated on November 8. Remember to label all belongings with your child’s name to help us return them before donation. Thank you!

Healthy Hunger Notifications: To receive reminders and notifications please sign in to your Healthy Hunger account – go to Settings – My Account – put a check mark in “Email Reminders” and “You school has posted a new order”

2024-25 Annual Volunteer Form:   If you already have a valid police clearance there is no need for you to re-apply via SchoolEngage.  Your clearance is valid for 5 years.  If you have not yet completed your 2024-25 Annual Volunteer Form (which is a form we ask all volunteers to complete once a year) – please follow this link:  2024-25 Annual Volunteer Registration Form

Dress for the weather: With the arrival of snow and changing weather, please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for outdoor breaks and lunch recess. We appreciate you sending them with warm clothing, including spare socks, hats, gloves, snow pants, and a winter jacket. Thank you!

Wildlife Sightings: Thank you to community members for letting us know when there is a coyote present. We let staff know when sightings occur and community members can also report coyote sightings via the online tool through the City of Calgary.

Unpaid Field Trips: The following field trips/activities have taken place and fees are due:

Okotoks Erratic (Gr 3) - $5.18

Blackfoot Crossing (Gr 3) - $37.37

Ms Fraser’s Art Club - $15.00

We kindly ask that you check your MyCBE account and settle any outstanding amounts as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the school cannot cover the cost of these trips, and if unpaid fees continue to accumulate, we will be unable to organize future field trips for our students.

We appreciate your understanding and support. Our goal is to continue providing enriching learning experiences for all students, and we need your help to make this possible.

Online Forms: The deadline for K – 6 families to complete Demographic Verification Forms has passed and online forms are now overdue.  It is important to recognize these forms are a legal requirement from Alberta Education for funding purposes. If forms remain incomplete, it may result in funding reduction for the Calgary Board of Education.  We will be reaching out directly to families who have not completed their forms.

If you do not know how to complete your online forms – please reach out to the School Office for assistance.
