School Update:

Volunteers Needed – Running Club:  Assuming the weather remains nice, we are looking for parent volunteers who will be able to help on Oct 11 for Woodbine’s running club.   Please email Mrs. Aspinall if you can help out – jeaspinall@cbe.ab.ca

Parent Volunteers:  Are you wanting to volunteer this year? If you are - there is a new process to go through to obtain a police clearance. Please go onto our website and click on “Get Involved” and the tab “Volunteer”. It has all the information you need as well as the form you need to bring to the office to start the process.  If you have a student in Grade 4, you may need to re-new your police clearance. Please check with the office what the status is of your police clearance prior to volunteering with us.

Well-Being Session Series: The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in an online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions will be hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and will explore topics such as vaping, brain development, mental health, and sexual health.

Child and Youth Well-Being:

A Webinar Series for Parents and Guardians

CBE educators believe that parents and guardians can inspire their kids to make healthy lifestyle choices and increase protective factors – in order to do so, they need the right tools and information.    Well-being is a precondition for learning. As our understanding of student well-being continues to evolve, it is important for those that support children and youth to stay up to date on the same information so everyone can support student success.

The intention of the series is to advance student well-being by raising family and caregiver’s understanding of a variety of health-related topics.

Thank you for your time and consideration to join us.

Student Accommodation Plan: Woodbine school is no longer listed on the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) Three-Year System Student Accommodation Plan (SSAP) as our school’s enrolment and utilization is now in an appropriate range.

The Three-Year System Student Accommodation Plan (SSAP), identifies schools with student accommodation challenges over a three-year timeframe. Accommodation challenges vary, but some common issues include schools being too full, schools with declining enrolment or schools experiencing a shift in student demographics. Sometimes, the issue affects only one or two schools, and other times, a group of schools need to be considered together.

In developing the SSAP each year, CBE Planning examines the following on an annual basis: current trends of growth and attrition in CBE programs (including the regular program), the demographic composition of new and established communities, community growth/decline, birth data, census data and other variables. This allows the CBE to analyze the educational choices students make in relation to where they are living.

Our school has been included in previous versions of the SSAP. In updating the plan last spring and above, our school is no longer part of the SSAP as our school’s enrolment and utilization is now in an appropriate range. This means that there is no further action required at this time.

If you want to learn more about the 2023-26 SSAP and current student accommodation planning at the CBE, please visit the Three-Year System Student Accommodation Plan page on the CBE website. If you have any further questions about student enrolment and utilization at our school, please reach out to Principal Brenna Fraser at bcgoodwin@cbe.ab.ca.
