School Update:

Cell Phones and Electronic Devices in School: Cell phones and personal electronic devices may only utilize such devices with explicit permission from a teacher during instructional hours. Outside of designated usage times, including breaks, electronic devices must be stored either in your child’s backpack or in the classroom parking lot. Failure to adhere to this rule may result in confiscation of the electronic device, with return to the student or parent at the day's end. The expectation is applicable from 8:55 am to 3:50 pm, aimed at fostering a learning environment where students are fully engaged in instruction and minimizing distractions. Leaving cell phones in desks, in belt bags or in pockets can disrupt learning. To further mitigate distractions, parents are requested not to send text messages or electronic communications during class time. Instead, students are encouraged to use the office phone to contact parents, and when needed parents are welcome to contact the office for message relay.

Recorders in Music Grades 3 and 4: The Grade 3 and 4 students are very excited to start learning recorders in Music class.  A letter will be sent home this week with details.  The bottom portion of this letter needs to be sent back to Mrs. Munro by February 9th.  Thank-you!

IMPORTANT| Collections | 2022-23 Central Fees (Transportation and Lunch Supervision): In February all outstanding 2022-2023 Transportation & Lunch Supervision fees will be sent to a collections agency.  Lunch supervision is an annual fee and is not prorated for disruptions in services.  Fees are not removed due to non-attendance for illnesses, absences or vacation.  If you require a payment plan please email studentfees@cbe.ab.ca prior to January 20, 2024.

Central Fee Waiver – Submission Dates: Waivers need to be completed on a yearly basis – they do not carry over from the previous school year.    If you applied for a Central Fee Waiver and the submission date is past 12 weeks, please email FeeWaiver@cbe.ab.ca

The 2022-2023 central fee deadline has been extended.  If you wish to apply for a central waiver (Transportation and Lunch Supervision fees) please email FeeWaiver@cbe.ab.ca

Extended Absences: An Extended Absence Form should be completed and returned to the school office if your child will be away from school for two weeks or longer.  The form can be found here:  Extended Absence Form

SchoolMessenger communications: Some families have recently stopped receiving school communications via our mass communication tool, SchoolMessenger.   Blocks can happen if you intentionally or by accidentally tagging an email as spam or junk, or sometimes email servers sense that an email is coming from an electronic mailing system and try to save you from the spam and the system blocks our emails. It can be helpful if you add your usual senders to your address book, then your system will recognize the messages as safe and not flag them as spam, (your child’s teacher email, Brenna Fraser’s email bcgoodwin@cbe.ab.ca, our woodbine@cbe.ab.ca email etc. If you also add cbecommunications@cbe.ab.ca that will help to ensure you receive CBE system messages too.

Report Cards: Report cards will be available for families to view/print via your MyCBE account on January 30.  There will be no hard copies sent home – please download/save a copy as they will be archived from your MyCBE account in July 2024.
