School Update:

Meet the Teacher (Grades 1-6): We warmly welcome all parents to attend our "Meet the Teacher" event alongside their child! This is a great chance to connect with your child’s teachers and get to know our school community. Due to the drop-in format, we won’t be able to have in-depth discussions like we will during Parent/Teacher Interviews in November, but we look forward to meeting you!

Please note that parking is limited, so if the weather permits, we encourage you to walk. Entrance will be at the rear of the building near the playground, where Food Trucks will also be available for your enjoyment.

Family Selfie (Felfie) Board: As we continue to celebrate the wonderful diversity of our Woodbine community, we invite staff and students to contribute to our "Felfie Board" in the school. Please bring a family selfie, along with a flag that represents your family's culture(s), to the "Meet the Teacher" Open House on September 26th. Your child will guide you to the board, where you can proudly display your family’s photo together. This is a great opportunity to showcase the unique backgrounds that make up our Woodbine family!

36th Annual Terry Fox Run & Walk at Woodbine School: We are thrilled to host our 36th annual Terry Fox Run and Walk on September 26 in the afternoon. Students will participate by running or walking, and we’ll be keeping track of the laps completed by each student with fun incentives to keep them motivated.

In addition to the run/walk, we will be raising funds for the Terry Fox Foundation. Donations can be made online at https://schools.terryfox.ca/Woodbine.

Incentives for fundraising and participation:

  • $1,000 raised: PJ Day for the whole school
  • $2,500 raised: Movie of choice for grade team groups
  • $4,000 raised: The Admin Team will dress up in costumes chosen by students for a day
  • Class with the most laps: Freezies for everyone!

We are also seeking volunteers to help mark laps by writing tally marks on students' hands. If you're able to assist, please email Mr. Pedersen at hrpedersen@cbe.ab.ca. The more volunteers, the smoother the event!

Next week, we will distribute stickers and temporary tattoos to students.

On the day of the event, there will be a short assembly at 2:00 PM, followed by the run at 2:30 PM. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Rookie Rugby Residency: This past week, we were thrilled to host a Rookie Rugby residency, where students had the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of rugby. If your child is interested in further exploring the sport, we encourage you to visit https://www.calgaryrugby.com/ for additional resources and opportunities to continue their rugby journey.

Healthy Hunger Registration: If you would like your child(ren) to participate in the school fun lunches , click on the link to register.  All fun lunch dates have been added to the Calendar on our website – remember to place your order 5 days prior to the fun lunch date.

Volunteer Process: If you are interested in volunteering at our school please follow the instructions below:

Step 1: You must first register as a volunteer at Woodbine School.  This should be done through MyCBE by clicking on the Online Forms and School Registration tab and completing the Volunteer Registration 2024-25 form. You can also submit an application through the school office.

We will verify your identity and register you in the CBE volunteer database. We will email you a letter enabling you to obtain a police information check from the Calgary Police Service (CPS).

Volunteers must reside in Canada for a full year before registering. Police clearances from countries other than Canada are not accepted.

Step 2: Visit the CPS online system electronic Police Information Check (ePIC), to obtain your police check using your CBE volunteer letter.

Volunteers should wait to submit their request until they receive an email from Calgary Police Service – Record Check inviting them to apply for their Police Information Check with VS for Volunteer. This will ensure the voucher is ready to be redeemed by the volunteer.

Voucher costs are covered for online applications only. If you apply to Calgary Police Service in-person with the e-Pic letter given them from DDS, the $21.25 application fee will apply.

If you submit your own payment, there is no option for a refund. There is no refund option for volunteers who have previously submitted applications.

Step 3: Once you receive your clearance document from CPS you will need to share it with us. This can be done through School Engage, in-person or by email (albrown@cbe.ab.ca).

Each school year you must complete the CBE volunteer registration form. By completing the form, you agree to abide by the conditions that protect the safety, confidentiality and working environment of our schools. You also make a signed declaration with regard to criminal charges.
